RANDOM FRIDAY- Complete with MUSINGS FROM THE MIDDLE YEARS! This is Precious. My birthday boy. We celebrated his official day yesterday but the festivities will be ongoing through the weekend and Monday as well. He deserves it. I've been celebrating his birthday since 1979. If memory serves...I delivered Strawberries and cream to his apartment and found a big black Lab on the way and brought it with me. This was early in our relationship and I seriously miscalculated his response. After the Lab was sent on his way, he did ask me if there was a Pony and red balloons waiting outside. Musings From the Middle Years- I dropped my glasses at the side of the bed when turning out the light the other night. Do you think I could find them in the morning? I've discovered that thing I thought only existed in cartoons where you go all Mr. Magoo trying to find your glasses. I did find where all the odd socks have gone, thank you Miss Muffin! I spent the next 24 hours wearing a pair of dime store spectacles that worked as well as a pair of Groucho Marx plastic glasses complete with nose and mustache! I could barely type given the fact that I had to sit at arms length from my laptop in order to see. Sigh. As expected, Precious came to the rescue and wondered aloud why I had not taken out the bottom drawer of the night stand to see if it was underneath said nightstand. Grrrr. I wonder if it gets old being right so often? I wouldn't know. Still, I am grateful to be able to see properly. My sister Nancy is in Turkey. Istanbul to be exact. I admit to having to look it up on a map. She is brave and adventurous in ways I have never been nor ever will be. I did not willingly get on a roller coaster until I was 20 years old. (seriously) She is there with a group of dancers. I wish her traveling mercies and comfort and speedy return. Nora Ephron- Rest In Peace. She made me want to write. Her loss was unexpected as she kept so much to herself on a personal level. The real personal level. I have taken this rather hard. My first pot roast was from her book Heartburn which was subsequently made into a film with Meryl Streep and Jack Nicholson. It was Lillian Hellman's recipe. She made me feel that living my life in a authentic and empowered fashion was possible. She was right. I can almost hear the unbridled guffaws from Heaven as she has livened up the place substantially. Blessings of comfort to her family and huge family of friends. Colorado- Beautiful state in need of some serious divine intervention. Please include this lovely location and its equally lovely folks in your walkabout prayers. I have every confidence that they would do the same for us. Hello to France, Redwood City, CA, Germany again!, United Emirates. Until next time, be well and do something kind and unexpected for someone else and also create something beautiful just for you. Hugs, Peg
