How many times have you noticed that it's the little quiet moments in the midst of life that seem to give the rest extra-special meaning? Fred Rogers Part of my ongoing contemplation of late is the awareness that I have of how quickly life seems to be moving. I find myself trying so hard to keep up. Admittedly, I have always been someone who simply goes about their tasks without a great deal of fanfare even when I am scheduled to pieces. I simply don't run about in circles. Well, and to be honest, I am as slow as a snail sometimes. Yet in the hurry that is often necessary mistakes get made and important pieces become forgotten. Lately, however, I feel the frustration of not being enough, not finding enough time to fully express my devotion to my loved ones, especially feeling as though there is not enough time for those bits of quiet and aloneness that fulfill and sustain me in ways that no one or no thing can. This is, despite how it may come acrosss, not so much a complaint as an observation, an opportunity to re-examine and readjust thinking and behavior. My dear friends of a like-minded nature would exhort me to "change my story!" A beautiful and helpful quote from a talented gentleman who gives lectures on Tuesday evenings at the Spirit Within You, Gregory Kompes. Utilizing his helpful quote is a work in progress. In the meantime, I am gathering moments of stillness as Mr. Rogers suggests. I am watching the bird momentarily on the branch. I am taking a photo of my dog as he helps me paint while resting on my shoulder, AND I am taking moments to listen to the hints and whispers and mere suggestions of Spirit. This is where sustainenance stems from.
Just for today...stop in the middle of the task, the traffic, the meeting even. Take a deep breath and have a moment. Might I suggest even a moment of gratitude for this space and this time with these folks all around you. It was meant for you and for what you bring to it. Even on its most chaotic day. I will find my way to balance. So will you. And as you do? The rest of us and the Universe will benefit. And so it is.
