•When they are young or old: You can use Reiki on an animal of any age or situation.
•When they have been through a trauma: Animals can use loving energy after they've experienced any type of abuse, loss, or move, or if they seem to exhibit depression or other behavioral disorder. Even if you don't know what the problem is, you can use Reiki to help.

It is the large windows that save her yet again. In the midst of the density that has descended deep within she turns to the view to find her way through. The finches are scrabbling for leaves and fluff for nests, the lone trio of geese honk overhead in route to the pond. She settles in the depth of this momentary despair long enough for it to have its way knowing that the light will bring her out and forward another day.

At the innermost core of all loneliness is a deep and powerful yearning for union with one's lost self. Brendan Foster It may be that this circumstance will present itself to you suddenly with the onset of trauma, feared diagnoses, the call you do not want to receive or, papers, the signed for kind, being delivered unexpectedly. Your body goes into a semi-shock state with a sense of the oxygen being sucked from the room and your body as well. Despite the unavoidable fact that these moments take place in all of our lives does not mitigate the trauma that takes place in our mind, body and spirit in such individual and personal fashion. Then, we are meant to rally forth and quickly develop a plan of action. We often feel a need to be strong for everyone else when we feel as though we have no bones in our body let alone a backbone to move forward with. What many in this situation do not ever want to discuss is that these traumatic sensations and desperate moments of isolation come whether we have a rock solid foundation in faith or do not. Organized religion or a spiritual path do not seem to save us from the existential loneliness that illness and death and separation from those we love wrought upon us. It is as if we find ourselves plucked from lives that we scarcely knew how much we valued into a desert without so much as a canteen or compass. Where is the divine in such a chaotic space? How has our faith abandoned us at this juncture? And frankly, the more to the point question is for people of faith, why has our loving God left us in a lump of loss and desperation when they are needed most? All fair questions. Let's consider this further. Throughout our history there are many great stories of wandering in isolation in every east, west, religious or spiritual tradition we can point to. And so it is in these moments. As valuable, truly valuable as our loved ones and treasured friends are in these unfortunate phases of crises, there may be a reason, a divine reason for this feeling of abandonment. The Divine resides in each of us. The Divine resides in each of us. Again, the Divine resides in each of us. We are created in divinity and when we feel isolated in a way that threatens to unalterably change us for the duration? We spiritually shed the shackles of this earthly life and speak, finally speak, to the spark of that Divinity within. The wise traveler on this journey cries out to the empty space for guidance and sustenance on every level. And then? They wait. They wait for what seems an eternity and more for the first whisper, hint and mere suggestion of Spirit. It comes at times in a subtlety that seems almost inappropriate for the moment. Still it comes. With the uncertainty of what is to come and how life is to be in a perhaps altered fashion it comes regardless and we are lifted up in moments of Grace. Yes. In moments that are fleeting and we will return again and again to the conversation that has gone from a crying out to an ongoing whisper between loving companions. Reach out to those who wander in this desert alone. It will not alter their sacred journey to the Divine but holding a hand, offering a kind word or meal will sustain them on their journey. Praise the courage it takes walk in the face of such chaos. May you know in the very seat of your soul of the Divinity within you and may this knowledge sustain you on your path. Namaste.

Though I write about this in my book, I can never quite wrap my head around the "inexplicable grace" of many bits of my journey. One of these pieces is this...My Dad shown here worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad in downtown Sacramento in Car Shop 9. He HATED it. One of the many folks who worked in Car Shop 9 was a gentleman by the name of Charles McEntee. Folks called him "Crazy Chuck" in an amiable way. Charles McEntee is my Pop, my birth father. These two true gentle men with huge and kind hearts knew one another but did not know that they shared a daughter, me, in common. Inexplicable GRACE. They are both gone now. I am so proud to be a walking demonstration via genetics and environment and love of these two. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD! May your cake be CHOCOLATE!

As a Reiki Master and spiritual coach the greatest joy in my work is seeing others feeling able to examine in true fashion that which has caused them deep internal pain and conflict and let it go. Once and for all. Conversely, the greatest disadvantage in this work is when a client simply cannot make a different choice and pain and conflict and chaos continues. The compare and contrast factor in our lives and in this work is frustrating and beautiful all at the same time. It serves as an ongoing reminder that the Universe has certain laws that all must abide by. The first one of these and the most important is that our free will is the beginning and end of all other rules. Before we jump on too much judgment of ourselves and others, we need to consider that things and people and circumstances are neither good or bad. The truth is there is more of a mix of these things in circumstances and certainly divinely created people. It is more about what "works" and what does not. All information, yes, repeating this again, All information is good information going forward. And...going forward is what we are meant to do. Let go of spoken and unspoken pain, anger, angst so that you are better able to view others with the compassion that they need and deserve. As you do? We all benefit. And SO IT IS! Namaste.

While there is little question about the emotions we are all feeling after Monday's horrific events at Boston Marathon, there is also little question of our resolve to bring those responsible to justice. Additionally, as a people we will stand with the grieving and we will support the injured. That's what we do. We bring light where there is darkness and hope where there is despair. As my readers know, one of the other hats I wear is as Reiki Master in private practice. Thank you to all alternative healing practitioners for holding the energy, calling forth love and comfort at this time. Humble gratitude to all of you who stop what you are doing and offer prayers of comfort to those suffering wherever they may be. It is these bits about our humanity that sustain us through difficult times. THERE IS ONLY LOVE and THAT WHICH IS IN NEED OF LOVE. Namaste.

The video embedded here is the type of news that I think needs to be reported with greater frequency. Not because reality does not have its place, but because this type of humanity in action IS reality. Every single day reality. Fear is what sells advertising dollars. Advertising dollars is what fuels the networks and cable companies so fear is what we get. Let's celebrate the wonderful things that humans do for one another every day. Let's spread the good news about the shift in consciousness that makes this reality more and more evident. Mostly...let us understand why we are here and go about the tasks of celebrating our humanity.
